Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the battery-run autorickshaws and easy bikes will ply in Dhaka city streets as per the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
But the rickshaws will not be allowed to ply on the 22 highways. Obaidul Quader said these while speaking at a program at Bangabandhu Avenue on Monday.
He said, "Considering the global crisis and sufferings of the low-income people, the Prime Minister has allowed to run battery-run rickshaws on the Dhaka city streets. But the decision of ban of rickshaws plying on the 22 highways will remain in force."
Earlier this morning, the drivers of battery-run rickshaw and easy bike took to Rampura road, causing huge tailback there. It was their second day protest.
On Sunday, vehicular movement in Mirpur 10, 11, 12 came to a halt as drivers of the autorickshaws demonstrated there against the government earlier order to ban the autorickshaws across the country.
