Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: BNP leaders Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and Kayser Kamal have been unanimously elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 13th Parliament. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the presence of Tarique Rahman and other lawmakers.
After arriving at the Parliament building at 10:00am, Hafiz Uddin and Kayser Kamal resigned as minister and state minister respectively. Hafiz Uddin also resigned from the post of BNP Standing Committee member.
Earlier, the Leader of the House Tarique Rahman nominated five-time lawmaker from BNP Khandakar Mossarraf to preside over the inaugural session of the 13th parliament to elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker. After their election, the House sitting was adjourned around 11:50am for 30 minutes.
Veteran BNP leader and freedom fighter Hafiz Uddin Ahmad is the lawmaker from Bhola-3 constituency. While Kayser Kamal is the MP from Netrakona-1 and also the party's law affairs secretary. Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni proposed the name of Hafiz as the Speaker while ruling party whip Rakibul islam, MP from Khulna 3 seconded the proposals. Whip Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu proposed the name of Kayser Kamal while another whip ABM Ashraf Uddin (Nizan) seconded the move.
