Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: The students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) postponed their ongoing road safety movement following a bilateral meeting between the university administration and the students on Thursday night.

After the students left the movement, the vehicular movement on busy Chattogram-Rangamati’s Kaptai Road resumed around 11:30pm.

Besides, the students have decided to return to their academic activities postponing their movement.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by CUET Registrar (additional duty) Prof Dr Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir on Thursday night said that a decision on reconsidering the closure of academic activities will be taken in the syndicate meeting to be held on Friday.

The statement read that the students, however, will be allowed to stay in the dormitories till then.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, the CUET authorities had announced to close the university for an indefinite period as students continued their demonstration demanding road safety after the deaths of two fellows in a road accident on April 22.

The male students were asked to vacate dormitories by 5pm on Thursday and the female students by 10am on Friday.

Meanwhile, two CUET students—Shanto Saha, a 20th batch student of Civil engineering department and Tawfiq Hasan, of same department, died and another student Zakaria was injured after a bus of ‘Shah Amanat Paribahan’ hit their motorbike on Chattogram-Kaptai road at Zianagar in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram on Monday.

Following the incident, CUET students took to the streets boycotting classes and examinations and continued their protests till Wednesday blocking the Chattogram-Kaptai road by setting fire on logs and tyres to press home their 9 point demand for safe road.
