Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: A Noakhali court has sentenced ten people to death and six others to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over the gang rape of a woman in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali in 2019.
Fatema Ferdous, the judge of Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2, handed down the verdict on Monday.
Local news portals said the court in Noakhali also sentenced six other accused to life imprisonment.
The accused were also fined Tk 50,000 each. In default of the fine, they would have to stay in jail for more two years.
On the night of the 11th parliamentary election on December 30, 2018, a woman was gang-raped allegedly by Awami League leaders ‘for casting vote in favour of BNP’.
